What is involved in the class?
Canberra Prenatal Yoga classes begin with a themed discussion. We enjoy an hour of gentle, flowing postures and sequences to build strength and mobility in your spine, leading to better flow of energy in your body.
The classes conclude with breathing practice and a deep relaxation, where we use powerful affirmations and visualisations to awaken confidence in your birth power and help you to bond even more with your baby.
What to bring
Please bring a yoga mat (you can buy them pretty cheaply at places like Kmart.)
I also recommend you bring a water bottle, one (preferably two) firm cushions, and a light blanket or shawl for relaxation.
Please arrive 10 minutes early for your first class to fill in an enrolment form.
What if I miss a class?
If you need to miss a class or two, you can make them up at one of the other classes within the same term at no charge. Just let me know in advance so I can manage the space. Make-ups for missed classes cannot be carried into the next term, and are limited to two classes per term.
Are there any handouts or other resources?
Each class you will receive a card with the week's affirmation and posture or sequence for home practice. During the term you'll also receive a suggested reading list and a list of recommended pregnancy and birth-related resources. Students will also be invited to attend a 'Better Births - Acupressure for Labour' partner workshop offered by the Blue Sky Chinese Medicine Clinic. You can email me at any time as well - and don't forget my blog. You'll find, too, that other women you'll meet will be a great resource, and most groups are keen to go out to a cafe after class at least once in the term.
What if I have any injuries, medical conditions or pregnancy complications?
Yoga classes are suitable for all pregnant women in their second and third trimesters. If you're not quite 12-14 weeks when term starts, please contact me for a later starting date at a reduced term rate (if space allows). If you have any injuries, please make sure you let me know at your first class. All postures can be modified to be completely safe for every woman.
If you have any medical conditions, please seek advice from your doctor or midwife before commencing yoga and please ask me if you have any concerns before starting.
Refund information
If you are unable to continue with your term of yoga for whatever reason, please contact me straight away and I can give you a refund for the rest of the term from the date you contact me, minus a $20 administration fee. Regretfully I am unable to refund any classes retrospectively.
